January 3 -- Refinishing and Upholstering

February  7-- Dovetail Joints
Duane Nightingale will demonstrate how to make dovetail joints including the use of the Leigh and Keller jigs.


March, 2002

March 7 -- Hand Planes
Dan Gallo, Stephen Case-Pall and Brad Ormsby will explain the basic types of hand planes and how they are used. 


April, 2002

April 4 -- Finishing 
Jeff and Lois Richardson from Compliant Spray Systems discussed Enduro Wat-R-Base Poly.


May, 2002

May 2 -- Planes and Specialty saws.
A representative from the Lie Nielsen Toolworks will demonstrate it's wares. 


June, 2002

June 6 -- Sharpening Techniques, Presented by Stan Wolpert
How sharp is sharp enough? What is the best way to sharpen? When does a tool need resharpening? How can I recondition an old blade? Do I use a whetstone, a water stone, a diamond file, or carbide paper? 

June 8 -- Shop Visit  9:00 PM at  Stan Wolpert home shop.
This will be a hands on workshop where you learn by doing.


July, 2002 

July 11 Meeting -- Miter Gages presented by Tim Albert
Tim will review miter gages based on an article that he submitted, and will also talk about writing for woodworking magazines.

: The meeting is scheduled for the 2nd Thursday of the month to avoid conflicts with the July 4th holiday.

This is a party for all the members. Please bring a dish, adequate to serve 6 or 8 people. We will eat shortly after 12:00 noon. The drinks and tableware will be provided by CVWA. Be sure to contact Stephen Cass-Pall to make reservations.

January

January 4 Meeting: "Cabinet Making" (tentative)

January 6 Shop Visit: "Brady Andresen's Shop"
We will visit Brady's metal and wood shop. He has a production shop where he builds a variety of products. Of special interest to us will be seeing how he produces high quality pool cues. 


February

February 1 Meeting:  "Rockler Woodworking Stores"  
Our guess speaker was the manager of the new Rockler store in Pasadena.

February 3 Field Trip: "Gullwings Museum)


March

March 1 Meeting:  "Professional Tool Sharpening"
Mr. Paul Demeem, from Carbide Saws in Ventura, discussed the construction of saw blades, what blades to use for specific purposes, care and safety issues.  


April

April 5 Meeting: "Basic Lathe Turning for Beginners" presented by John Tarpley and Howard Ford
They covered basic concepts of turning, placing the emphasis on the wood. Turning safety was stressed. They discussed the tools used and how they are applied to the wood. 

April 7 Shop Demonstration
On the following Saturday they continued the teaching with a shop demonstration giving those present an opportunity to do hands on turning.

May 3 Meeting: "Coloring Wood" presented by Eileen Charles


June

Two full days of a very special  Decorative Veneering seminar with Paul Schurch will occur June 2-3, 2001. 
Sorry if you missed it but it is over. Other major events are being planned.

June 7 Meeting: John Tarpley discussed different approaches and techniques of marquetry and decorative veneering and Guy Buchwitz summarized the veneering techniques presented by Paul Schurch in our two day annual Seminar on Decorative Veneering. 


July

July 5 Meeting:  Shaun Millington will present the program on "Cabinet Making."

August

August 2 Meeting:  David Blackburn will present our program on the subject of Decorative Box Making.

Monthly Shop Visit: A follow-up demonstration on making decorative boxes will start at 8:00 a.m. at David Blackburn's home shop and end about 11:00 a.m.. Since the number who can attend is limited by space the opportunity is now closed. His presentation created so much excitement that hopefully you will have another opportunity in the future. 


September

September 6 Meeting:  Dan Gallo will discuss the use of the Scroll Saw.

September 8 at 9:00 a.m. Dan will direct us in our Saturday Shop Visit in a hands on scroll saw session as a follow-up to the Scroll Saw Program.


October

October 4 Meeting:  This is the fun evening with the annual Auction. 
Start laying aside those valuable items (valuable to the purchaser) that you will donate to the Association so they can be auctioned off that evening. If you have an extra tool (or whatever) around that you are no long using then consider giving it to the auction. 

October 6 Shop Visit: The shop visit this month will be at different shops (to be announced) and will be a hands on working session. We will be working on the Christmas project building toys. 


November

November 1 Meeting: Bob Coyle will be presenting a program on The Values, Importance and How to Set Up a Dust Collection System. Not only the importance of having a dust collection system but how to buy and build your system. 

November 3 Shop Visit: The shop visit will be a follow up on the program about Dust Collection Systems. We will visit a shop where we can see a system in operation. It will be a time to ask those important questions.


December

December 1 -- Holiday Party at the home of Steven CasePall

December 6 Meeting: Show and Tell and Christmas Toy Demonstration . This is your opportunity to bring in your projects of all varieties for show and tell. We will also get to see and hear about the results of all our toy making. We will share about how the toys were built; the problems, successes and fun experienced while building the hundreds of toys.

If your projects are too large to bring to the meeting then please bring pictures to share.
