Barking Dog is a mechanical toy made from Curly Maple and finished in Acrylic. The dog lunges forward and the the mouth opens.

Shut the Box Game Roll the dice to flip the numbered blocks. It is made from various woods and is finished in varnish.

Alphabet Wood Carving carved from Bass wood and Mahogany. All the letters are inter-twined. The finish is also varnish. He shows us a mold he intends to use to replicate the carving.

Airplane Toy This toy is joy stick controlable in all axes. Gene used various wood species and finished it in varnish. The airplane is mounted on a universal joint.

Here are two more of Gene's special toys. The first is a Skittles Game where the pins are easily re-set by puling on the string! It is made from Maple and finished in Acrylic. The second is a prototype of the Maze Table Game donated to the Oxnard Children's Museum. It is made from various woods and can be tilted with offset cams under the maze. The finish is also Acrylic.

Gene made this Table Game for the Gull Wings Children's Museum in Oxnard. It is about 4 foot square and 27 inches high. I made it from Poplar that Brady Andresen sold me at his costs and he ripped all the board widths for me. Finished with High Gloss water based Acrylic. It takes two players to tilt the table using the control wheels. The table tips both ways while the players get a 2 inch ball to roll thru the maze.
The bottom view shows the control rods and cams.

Butterfly Toy A Monarch Butterfly mounted on a dowel make from various wood types. The finish is acrylic. The wings do flutter when activated.

Piano Player Toy Gene made this one from plywood and finished it in water based acrylics. The crank moves the arms and plays a music box inside.

A Butterfly Toy is made from a design from India. It is made with 1/8" plywood and dowels. The finish is Water Based Acrylic and Varnish. The Wings flap when block is pushed and pulled on the rod.

A Whirly-Twirly Doll from another Indian design. The materials are various woods and wool hair. The finish is Water Based Acrylic. This is to teach centrifugal force to children.

Toy master Gene West saw a carved piano player and thought he could do something with that idea... here it is! This set of carved fingers is activated by a crank with cams on it. The fingers are poplar and the base soft maple. It is finished in polyurethane.
