May 2004 Meeting Pictures

Dave Blackburn


Dave made these three boxes. One is made from walnut, Wenge, and olive burl inlays. Another is made from Lacewood, ebony, Ipe, unknown white burl, gray veneer, mahogany, and maple. The last is made with Lacewood bow with geometric pattern inlay of Verawood, yellow heart, ebony, unknown white burl, teak bottom tray with Ipe tray sides and triangle divider.

Dave made this entry table using the techniques he developed for making the above boxes. This table is made from Ipe, purple heart, yellow heart, jara burl, Coralwood, Madrone burl, and Verawood. Finish is shellac sealer with rubbed out lacquer.

Stephen Case-Pall


Stephen just finished restoring this rusty chisel from the 1930's. Early 20th Century 1/2" socket chisel by Greenlee. Boxwood handle turned and finished with wax only.

Bob Lattanzi


Bob created this art box from mahogany, apricot (from his back yard!), rosewood, and black acacia. It is finished with Minwax natural. This is inspired by the Po Shun Leong boxes he saw in Ojai.

Marshall Nathanson


Marshall mass produced these small jewel boxes from Lacewood. He started with a tree, cut it into rough lumber, dried it. The boxes are finished in Tung oil.

Gene West


Gene added to his collection of wooden locks with these two beauties. The barrel lock works with an internal wooden screw. The other works with the external push buttons. The wood is assorted and finished in polyurethane.
